mary, did you know?

apparently joseph is no match for a transformer. accidents do, indeed, happen, especially around here, and especially when the uncoordinated teeter on the arm of a chair while hosting the battle. why couldn’t it have been a wise man? the shepherd boy with the sheep over his shoulders? the lazy camel? no, it has to be a member of the holy family. i tried not to moralize. when i sit in the living room i imagine what joseph will look like after i have attempted to fix him (not a good image: i do not do super glue without mishap). mary now looks lonely, and as though she is saying, “oh, my.”

we made a tree again. it’s not as nice as the one we made last year, but it does the job of holding the lights and garland in the air so that we can see the twinkling from many corners of the house. henry and i searched the yard for good branches while jude gathered the not-so-good and lined them in the driveway. the good branches haven’t fallen yet, “we need some wind,” henry and i think, say.
lola is perfect and lovely and we are all enjoying her as much and more than we knew we would. she kicks her legs towards the tree (foretelling next year, no doubt) to tell us that she, too, is excited about the lights, the stars in strings and silver, the glittering balls suspended, winking.

Oh Joseph! I was admiring you the other day too.
I love your blog. LOVE IT.
And I envy your photography skills… but in a good way. Can you download straight into my head?
Oh I thought I had lost you forever!
I was on GCM a looooong time agao, now I’m at GM but I always love your way with words and photographic skill.
But I had to comment on poor Joseph. It reminds me of a Donny Osmond babrie doll my sisters and I had when we were little. His head was always falling off and I have the most vivid memories of calling the hospital to make an appointment for him to get his head reattached. Maybe the same hospital can help your Joseph, LOL
Take care!
Alas, the search for Joseph’s identical twin brother has been useless. However, I did find a shepherd but he is also headless. Quite a sad discovery from the back of the china cabinet but I will send him your direction in a Christmas package so you can create a Frankenstein’s Joseph.
