but what will waiting bring?

the confident weather woman told me last night while i was dozing off with lola that the winter weather we can expect will be balmy, sixties, seventies, weather that makes the lack of snow tolerable. pennsylvania for christmas should make up for the snow deficit of the south, we hope, as i wonder what sort of winter coat jude will wear to sled, roll, angel-wallow.

we try for the wintery feeling around here, cocoa for sipping, spilling sticky on the table, soups that no one likes but me, christmas cookies baked and eaten with abandon, without guilt. it’s just not the same without snow on the ground, without wind that bites and burns. january will come soon, though, slushy ice and nothing more. this week, in t-shirts and without numb fingers, the boys dig in the garden that we did not plant, and i am glad for the temporary quiet in the house, the cat in the spill of sunlight on the study floor, lola sleeping without interruption. a breezy december does not bring a mess of soggy clothes in a sorry pile on the floor.

henry’s kids 4 truth (where you don’t have to scrounge around in the car for weekly dues like you do for awana!) class sang last night. he was nervous, holding his hands together to keep them still and i felt nervous with him. “jesus loves the little ones like you, you, you,” they sang. i always feel some kind of lump-in-my-throat emotion when i hear children sing about jesus. it seems more real than most other religious singing. we beamed and took pictures and jude imagined feeling brave enough to go to his own class and stay there without feeling sad for two hours.

    hurrah for K4T! not that i even knew that about the fees thing with the other. we never had those other clubs in the church where i grew up.

    love the photos and the observations. as usual, you make me covet a quicker-to-publish camera. =}
