sipping once, sipping twice

these pics are of bits of the christmas tree, used as palm branches in an bit of ancient world play by the boys. annie says that pines are hard to draw, but she does pretty darn well, i think.

big dad and kahlil and i played hooky from obedience school tonight. too many mobiles to finish, a long wet day with a cooped up dog that will, indeed, have too much energy for obedience of any kind. we were both secretly glad to stay home and cozy, and turned back to our work after a mutual understanding with dual nods of the head.

the pup has learned to walk on his hind legs around, to climb onto furniture and look forlornly at us until we help him back down. what a thing it is that is a puppy!

the kids spent the afternoon playing with friends and this was good. there was also coffee and good conversation for the motherly involved, also good. later there was chicken chicken soupishness and rice, (a little quoting of carol + sendak while making it with lola, of course). and even later there is ice cream, the kind that i like best that ernie brought home because it’s what i like. he’s a giver, that man, giving up many things, and especially giving up the butter pecan or mint or vanilla bean for some kind of chocolate mayhem for me. a good man, he is, a lucky girl, am i.
