i got this book for ernie for our anniversary. i saw it online awhile back and knew that someday we had to have it. it’s a very good book, and speaks plenty for books done the blurb way. it also makes me want to eat stacks of waffles with honey, crusty toasts with butter, blueberries and perfect dollops of greek yogurt, handfuls of almonds and a smile. instead it’s usually coffee, cream, a possible crust of toast one of the kids left behind. i’m trying not to eat bread or pasta or potatoes but it’s very hard. and a breakfast without a chunk of homemade bread toasted and buttered and smeared with honey is hard to replace. those spinach and egg and a dash (and only a dash) of olive oil scrambles are just not as good. so coffee only it has become.

i’m spending part of the afternoon making caramels, which i’ve never done and am hoping for a glorious success. after this, to finish a few more mobiles. later than this, after dinner and baths and the like, i will make some more mobiles and freak out a little about the indie craft parade and then eat some of the caramels, alone in the studio while the kids are asleep and ernie shoots the wedding of a beautiful girl in north carolina.

nine years, almost ten. days and days and days. days that slipped like sand or water through our fingers. can it be this long? or has it only been this long? all the days before are nothing and there are no days after yet.
i’m glad i got this one. God is good.

hooray for newness! don’t you think?

not to boast, but ernie is extraordinary! my husband is amazing and generous and extremely good to me. he has been working very hard on his own website and portfolio and yet he gave me, at the same time, this awesome new design for my own site. i don’t think i’m an easy client for him, especially as i hand him weirdly proportioned collages and try to describe what i want the site to look like at two in the morning when the ice cream is gone and the hours for sleep nearly so, also.

voila! this masterpiece! regardless of my poor verbal communication skills and nitpicking, he understands me as well as anyone can or should. this is (one of many, of course) a reason i married him. others have been ever perplexed and lost at sea when it came to understanding. not ernie.

as mentioned above, ernie has just launched his incredible new site + portfolio + blog. it’s a beautiful place on the interwebs. and if you didn’t know it before, his photography is inspiring and really, outstanding. when you go, tell him you care.

so, welcome to the new abode. click and snoop about as you please. and if something is wonky or weird or just unreadable, pray, do tell. you can contact me on the nifty little contact page.

my mom tells a story about a time she was asked to guess the meaning of a vanity license plate belonging to a swarthy (was he swarthy? i always picture swarthiness…) man in a parking lot. the plate read FSHG 317 and my mother guessed, as i would have (what would you have guessed?), “fishing, 317?” the man guffawed, perhaps because he couldn’t believe she was too stupid to answer correctly, or perhaps because he thought he was so clever with his secret message (secret messages aren’t really the point of vanity plates, right?), and said, “no! it stands for father, son, holy ghost, three in one, and seven is God’s luuuuuucky number!”

anytime something comes in sevens i think of this man and i laugh and then maybe feel a little bit sorry that he wasn’t catechized about God and luck not really going hand in hand.

today is the anniversary, the seventh anniversary, of our wedding, the day that ernie and i dressed up and wore flowers and were wed in holy matrimony. seven years and i feel like a very lucky girl indeed. happy anniversary, dearest. isn’t it nice to be in love?
